Amendments To The Guidelines For Vessels With Dynamic Positioning (DP) Systems (MSC/CIRC.645)

The IMO Circular 645 “Guidelines for vessels with DP systems” was issued on 1994. This tool is ruling over 20 years quite well. But the DP industry had gone through significant development and growth and a review of th 645 is expected to be completed by 2016.

Main changes shall affect the concept of

  • Redundancy,
  • DP Class categorization

while more emphasys shall be put on 

  • Flag State Verification and Acceptance Document (FSVAD), 
  • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA),
  • Worst Case Failure Design Intent (WCFDI) 
  • and decision support tools for operational activity planning Critical Activity Mode (CAMO), Task Appropriate Mode (TAM) and Activity Specific Operating Guidelines (ASOG).
